Global Warming - Zylah

Over the last hundred years, Earth's temperature has begun to change. This change is called global warming.

Scientists believe that global warming is causing problems such as more powerful storms and rising water in the oceans. Different plants and animals could be dying because of global warming. Most scientists believe that people and the way they live are the main cause of global warming.

Refineries and factories are where oil is turned into gasoline. They put greenhouse gases into Earth's atmosphere. Greenhouse gases trap heat near Earth, which keeps our planet warm. This is called the greenhouse effect. Without it, Earth would be too cold for living things. When too much greenhouse gas gets into the Earth's atmosphere, it traps too much heat and causes global warming. Today's factories, cars and power stations make much more greenhouse gas then in the past.

Today, global warming is causing climate change. By studying glacier ice, scientists have discovered that Earth's climate has changed very slowly over time. However, scientists now believe that global warming is causing climate change to happen more quickly. Some animals like polar bears, are in danger because Earth's climate is changing too fast for them to adapt.

About half of all people live near oceans. Because global warming is causing glaciers to melt, oceans are rising. This puts animals and people in danger. Rising temperatures caused flooding and storms that have hurt people and their homes.

Luckily, there are ways of travelling that make no greenhouse gas at all.  Walking and riding bikes, scooters and skateboards are great ways of travelling making any greenhouse gas.

  2. Really interesting blog Zylah. I learnt a lot and feel sorry for the polar bears. It's a very good incentive to walk, ride bikes, scooters and skateboards!
